Athletics South Africa (ASA) says it has come up with some stringent measures on returning to sports events in line with the COVID-19 pandemic health regulations.
Senior official at ASA, Jean Verster, says they have created a new app in order to enable all people to be screened when they go to sports venues.
“We have introduced an application to have strict access control with regard to people visiting our events. Luckily in South Africa, we do not have any indoor events other than our athletes competing in Europe and in some other competitions but in South Africa, all our events are outside.”
“The web-based application that we use basically allows people to do their screening and also register to go to a stadium and also when they leave the stadium.”
Crowds return to sports stadiums under new COVID-19 regulations
Last month, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that stadiums will be opened for professional sports events at 50% capacity.
South Africans who have been vaccinated or recently tested negative for COVID-19 will now be able to attend sporting events in stadiums, music concerts and other social events.
