RHS ESSENTIAL

How to improve your marks

Tip #6: Improve your note-taking skills

One of the reasons you may have identified for underperforming is that you’re not taking good enough notes. Hurriedly scrawled notes from class can be difficult to make sense of when you come to revise from them, or even to write an essay based on them. It’s all too easy to misunderstand your own notes and fail to get a strong enough grasp of the topic. It’s imperative, therefore, that you produce good notes from each of your classes and from the books you use – notes that you can read, that are useful, and that are logically organised. If you make notes by hand – in class, for example – try to type them up at the end of the day, while they’re still fresh in your mind.

The 10-seater vehicle was stopped at an informal settlement near Reiger park.
According to a Twitter post by the Gauteng Traffic Police, there were three adults, a nine-year-old child and 44 crèche children.
Furthermore, the vehicle was found to be unroadworthy. Faults on the vehicle included, the parking brake, steering mechanism, torn seats and exposed wiring.
A discontinue notice was issued to the driver.
In the past, we have seen how scholar transport drivers have risked transporting more children in their vehicles than required.
Last year a video of 58 schoolchildren crammed in a 14 seater minibus taxi in Bela-Bela was circulated on social media.
In the video, one can see a metro officer counting the never-ending stream of children getting out of the vehicle that is meant to seat 14 people.
Meanwhile, in Carletonville, GTP arrested a public transport operator for driving a taxi under the influence of alcohol.
The 36-year-old male taxi driver was arrested on Monday afternoon following a drunk driving operation conducted in Carletonville, Westrand policing precinct.
According to GTP spokesperson Sello Maremane, the taxi driver’s alcohol breathalyzer reading was recorded at 1,24 mg/1000 ml which is three times over the prescribed legal limit of 0.24 mg/1000.

“The driver was detained at Carletonville police station and appeared at the Carletonville Magistrates court this morning [Tuesday] to face charges relating to driving reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
He further cautioned people not to drive under the influence of alcohol as it often results in impaired driving causing unnecessary accidents and loss of lives.
GTP will continue to patrol Gauteng’s major routes to ensure that road users comply with the rules and regulations of the road.

“In our concerted efforts to save the lives of road users, the Gauteng Traffic Police will also conduct a series of road safety activations in various hazardous locations as part of the Road Safety Education programme,” added Maremane.
